Joan Osborne

The Kentucky folksinger Joan Osborne found herself somewhat incongruously in 1996 with a single that invited the listener to consider the possibility that God might be ‘just a slob like one of us’. Not the kind of thing that was going to earn plaudits from the guardians of America’s public morality, but it did create a sizable following. Her follow-up album ‘Righteous Love’ is less likely to draw attention but is nonetheless a solid showcase of the warm virtues that led to her breaking through in the first place.

Prodige

As a follow-up to last year’s Propice, the second Prix Ricard curated by Robert Fleck focuses on an even-younger set in Prodige. Three rooms give something of the sense of the plurality and energy of what he describes as an ‘extremely independent’ new generation, if making it hard to get much sense of each artist’s output. The overall result is patchy but amid some forgettable stuff and Seamus Farrell’s highly irritating installation, look out for Guillaume Janot’s photos taken in Glasgow station, Natacha Lesueur’s foodie fishnet tights, Valerie Mrejen’s video, Fabien Verschaere’s ice siren in its freezer coffin, and Zbigniew Adach’s large, multi-canvas painting of deconstructed modern building.
